Full Moon Yoga Mission BayJPG

Join us January 31, It’s a marvelous night for a Yoga Moon Dance, grab your mat and meet on mission bay under the moon at 6:15pm.

Wednesday January 31 look up in the sky for a triple lunar treat. For the First time since 1866, a supermoon and blue moon will coincide with a lunar eclipse. It is called a blue moon, not for the color, it is when there are two supermoons in one calendar month-  We started the New Year, January 1, with a super moon and we will end the month with a supermoon, this is called a blue moon.

We will also experience a Lunar eclipse- when the moon passes through the shadow of the Earth. The moon orbits the Earth in an ellipse, not a circle. This means it sometimes moves closer to us than usual. A supermoon occurs when the moon’s closest approach to Earth coincides with a full moon.

The best time to see the supermoon is shortly after sunset, when something called the “moon illusion” will make it appear even bigger. The closer the moon is to the horizon, the larger it looks. That makes the moon look extra-close and extra bright — up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than a full moon.

“Weather permitting, the West Coast, Alaska and Hawaii will have a spectacular view of totality from start to finish,” Gordon Johnston, program executive and NASA lunar blogger, explained in a post. No telescope is needed.

This moon trifecta hasn’t happened in 150 years.  This will be the last oversized moon until January 2019.  Video Check it Out! Sunset yoga jen bob

According to Ayurveda, the full moon is a powerful healing force. It’s associated with energy making it a time of fullness, cooling, calming and nurturing. It is a time for creating and bringing new things into the world and for honoring the creative and nurturing forces within us.

Most everyone who’s ever stepped on a yoga mat has heard of Sun Salutations, but not everyone is familiar with the sequence known as Moon Salutation. The moon salutation sequence offers a soothing alternative to the sun salutations, which are warming and energizing. It honors the quiet yin energy in all of us and creates a perfect counter balance to our busy hectic lives.

Moon Salutations can be practiced any time you’re looking to access and cultivate the nurturing, creative and your sensual side.  This Wednesday January 31, is a great time to Practice Moon Salutations with a mind to turning your attention inward and listen for what your heart (or the moon) has to say!  Join us 6:15pm E.
